Zowel True Grit, The Social Network (winnaar 4 Golden Globes) en The King's Speech zijn genomineerd in haast alle belangrijke categorieën: beste film, beste regie, beste scenario en beste mannelijke hoofdrol.

Toch lijkt de uitreiking van de 83ste Academy Awards weer een klassieke tweestrijd te gaan worden: tussen The Social Network  en The King's Speech. David Finchers Facebook -film won onlangs vier Golden Globes, waaronder beste film, maar The King's Speech, over de stotterende koning George VI, was dit weekend de grote winnaar bij de Producers Guild Awards, een belangrijke graadmeter voor de Oscars.

De Oscars worden uitgereikt op 27 februari in het Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Het gala wordt dit jaar gepresenteerd door acteurs James Franco (zelf genomineerd voor zijn rol in 127 Hours) en Anne Hathaway.
